The keyboard doesn’t appear
Open the iPhone Settings app and go to General, then Keyboard, then Keyboards. Tap Add New Keyboard and choose Waffler. Then tap Waffler in that list and turn on Allow Full Access. In any app, tap or hold the globe key to switch to it. Waffler’s own Settings has a Keyboard setup guide with the same steps.
Why Full Access?
iOS doesn’t let keyboards use the microphone, so the Waffler app does the recording and transcription and the keyboard asks it to start and stop. Full Access is what lets the keyboard talk to the app on your device. The keyboard itself never records audio, never logs what you type and makes no network requests. The privacy policy has the details.
The waffle opens the app
The Waffler app keeps a session running in the background so the waffle starts listening instantly. If the session isn’t running, for example after a restart or after you stopped it, tapping the waffle opens Waffler to start it again. Then tap the back link at the top left of the screen to return to what you were doing. The session stays on until you stop it in the Waffler app.
The orange dot
That’s iOS showing that the microphone is ready, because the session keeps it open. Waffler only records while the waffle is listening. Stop the session in the Waffler app whenever you like, and the dot goes away.
Which API key?
Waffler uses your own Groq or OpenAI key. Groq has a free plan and is the one to start with. The API key guide walks you through getting one. Paste it during setup, or later in Waffler’s Settings under Provider.
Key and limit errors
If Waffler says your key is invalid or you have hit a limit, check the key in your provider’s console: it may have been revoked, or you may have used up your plan for now. Paste a fresh key in Waffler’s Settings under Provider. If a dictation failed to send, tap the waffle to retry it once.
Where dictations are kept
Only on your device, in Waffler’s history. You can search it, copy the original transcript, delete single dictations or clear everything in Settings.
